What you might be missing, if all you worry about is being right

If you're anything like most people, you entered arguments with the intent of figuring out whether or not you were right. We tie our ideas to our identity….making it almost impossible to see an outcome where if our idea "fails," we have not failed as well. Out instinct is to respond defensively when someone challenges our ideas, instead of responding curiously from a place of wanting to know why a person has the perspective they do. 

In this 2018 TED talk, Julia Dhar talks about the context where we are so scared of debate, we avoid conversing about things we disagree on entirely...and when we do engage in discussions, we do so poorly...
